On Saturday May 30th the fifth Week of Reading to Children was launched as part of the 55th Zlín Film Festival. The inauguration ceremony was led by the famous actor Luke Hejlík, and opened a week of reading, discussions, exhibitions and other events throughout the Czech Republic. New this year were fortune cookies; these are small cakes with a wish baked into each. The fortune cookies were distributed to participants at the ceremony, and the wish in each one sent a surprise to the address book of each child. The event was promoted by the organisation Every Czech Reads to Kids®, which points out the importance of reading and building solid ties within the family through the regular reading of books together.
