In June, the 6th edition of the professional competition for polygraphers and printers called DUPLEX took place at Albrecht High School.
This year’s edition was influenced in a positive sense by two significant events. Firstly, our printing house FINIDR celebrates 30 years since its foundation, and at the same time this year also marks the 195th anniversary of the birth of Karel (II) Albin Prochaska. He is the person under whose leadership the Prochaska factory achieved its greatest growth and became known not only within the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, but throughout Europe.
In the first issue of this year’s newsletter we reported on the progress of the ongoing competition. At that time, the students had a tour of the premises in the FINIDR A and B building and the Museum of Těšín. They also explored the immediate surroundings of Těšín. It was thanks to the cooperation of Albrecht High School, FINIDR and the Museum of Těšín that the students had the opportunity to gain not only inspiration, but especially the basis for their work.
Furthermore, students of the 2nd and 3rd years of the Polygraphy and Printing majors cooperated with each other in this competition. Polygraphers were in charge of the photographs. They took the photos, processed them and handed them over to the graphic designers working in creative teams who created the typesetting of the annual pexes, which used the images of the polygraphers. The printers had to print a historical poster from the photographs. The final competition in DUPLEX was a skills triathlon across all year groups. Counting sheets, folding folders and determining the paper weight. All on time and quality.
Based on the results of this year’s competition, the fifteen best students in the categories of Printing, Photography, Graphics and Polygraphic Triathlon were awarded in the presence of the school management, representatives of FINIDR and the Museum of Těšín Region. In addition to material prizes, they can also look forward to an autumn trip to the Mondi paper mill in Ružomberok, Slovakia, donated by our printing company.
And that wasn’t all! Due to the 30th anniversary of our printing company, we have announced one main prize in the Photography category called “Best photo” and four secondary prizes called “Awarded photo“. These students also took home some extra crown.
We congratulate all the awarded students for their great work and look forward to the next 7th edition of this competition.
