Excursions in FINIDR are a drag!

Text: Ondřej Prokop

What does it look like in one of the largest printing houses in Europe? How are soft and hardcover books produced? Or what does a stapled notebook look like? These are exactly the questions that continue to attract a lot of people interested in a tour.

Children, students or adults. The list includes all age groups. They all came to see us last year.

What are they most interested in?

Depends on the age group. The little ones are most fascinated by our Heidelberg printing machines and their colourful towers. Seeing the “colouring machines” with their own eyes is simply an experience. In the tail is probably the three-cutter.

The older ones are then very positive about seeing the process as a whole. Especially if they are regular or even lifelong readers. It then pleases them to see for themselves how a book is made. But if I have to single out a process that is of the greatest interest here, I would mention the sewing.

Almost 500 interested persons

Last year, my colleagues and I welcomed over 30 groups and guided a total of 494 people. If we add to this number the customers who come to see the production in person and tour selected parts of the printing plant together with the sales staff, this number would increase even further.

This year’s main guided tour “season” will start around March and end around the end of June. This is the ideal time to conduct tours of our printing plant. Thus, we will conduct the largest number of tours during these four months and even then, we will not be able to meet all the demand.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our colleagues who help us to guide larger groups and the Finidraks in production. When you see us with a group, you come out to meet us, show the machine in action, smile – in short, you support the experience that visitors take away from our print shop. Thank you!

And you know what the biggest catch is?

Definitely the reading ribbon. Over 90% are sure it’s a bookmark!
